Jay S. Smith
Attorney Smith became a partner with the firm effective January 1, 2013. He joined the firm as an associate in 2007. Originally from New Glarus, Wisconsin, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Political Science and German Studies and a minor in History. While an undergraduate student, he spent a semester studying abroad in Oldenburg, Germany.

He graduated from Marquette University Law School in 2007. Upon law school graduation, Attorney Smith earned a Sports Law Certificate from the National Sports Law Institute. He was also awarded the 2007 Carl Scheer Venue Excellence Award from the National Sports Law Institute. He lectured on the subject of contracts at the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Expert Coaches’ Academy. His article "A Study of Division I Assistant Football and Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Contracts" was published in the Fall 2007 issue of the Marquette Sports Law Review.

Attorney Smith’s practice focuses in the areas of estate planning, probate & trust administration, real estate, corporate & business law, and creditor & debtor rights. He has represented a wide variety of clients in numerous transactional, estate planning, and estate administration matters. He prides himself on his availability to clients and his compassionate approach to working with his clients.

He is licensed to practice law before all courts in Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association and the Jefferson County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Madison Estate Council. Attorney Smith is involved in several community organizations, including the Lake Mills Rotary Club and Lake Mills Optimist Club. He also serves on the boards for the Lake Mills Area Community Foundation and the Lake Mills Main Street Program.

Attorney Smith and his wife, Jessica, reside in Lake Mills with their daughters, Adeline and Lucy. Jay enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is also an avid sports fan, particularly of all college and professional teams in Wisconsin.
